Queens Preludes
Guillermo Laporta, flute
Josefina Urraca, piano
October 6, 2021, 7.00pm
at the Plaxall Gallery (Map)
CreArtBox is coming back to the NYC live music scene with the world premiere of the piece Queens Preludes, a composition of 12 preludes for flute and piano written by Guillermo Laporta during COVID times exploring the concept of "looking back at memories before life-changing events".
Generally, a prelude is considered to be an introductory performance, action, or event preceding and preparing for the principal or a more important matter.
Life can feel like an endless prelude. But sometimes, it's only noticeable when something significant happens.
This collection of pieces reflect flashes of wondering about the past, rendering into music senses of trust, vertigo, uncertainty, assurance, ambiguity, and remembrance.
This event is made possible by the Queens Council on the Arts with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. This event was also awarded with the City Artist Corp grant.
Note: Due to NYC vaccine mandates, all visitors to the gallery must wear a mask, be vaccinated and will be required to show proof of vaccination (CDC vaccine card, NYC COVID Safe Pass, NYS Excelsior Pass)

The event is hosted by the one and only, Junko Kubo, host of NHK’s Kouhaku Utagassen. Our Drag Song Battle draws inspiration from Kouhaku while challenging gender norms through drag. The Pink & Gold Teams are ready to show you why NYC has some of the best drag around!
This event is curated by Team Japan, a Japanese stylist & talent team based in NYC: Aya (stylist), Michael (hair & makeup) and Yuka (YouTube director).
Contestants perform for the chance to win a cash prize plus have a separate amount to donate to a community fundraiser. The performance category is Show Us Your Best! Audience members will be given a ballot to vote for their favorite team. Voting begins after the first performance and closes after one member of each team battles during a lip synch finale. .
