Born in Rochester, NY, Jean Foos arrived in NYC in 1971 to study at Cooper Union. She was awarded fellowships by Tyler School of Art to paint in Philadelphia and Rome. Her MFA show was reviewed by Edith Schloss in the International Herald Tribune. Foos spent a semester in the Whitney Museum Independent Studio Program and several summers painting in the Provincetown Workshop. During the 70s and 80s she lived in the East Village and worked in her studio at Union Square. She has dedicated herself to painting and the art community for over 40 years—organizing shows and open studios and designing artist publications.

Foos has exhibited in numerous NYC galleries—and internationally. She received a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and was nominated twice (by Jack Whitten) for the Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant. Hal Bromm Gallery is currently presenting her work in an online show called “COLOR”.
